Community Service

Throughout the year, the Double Dragon Dojo Martial Arts Academy is involved in a variety of community related activities in the New Milford area.

For four consecutive years, ' 93-' 96, students, their friends and families have participated in the March of Dimes Walk America, raising the most money of all the New Milford teams in ' 94 & ' 95, and turning in over $16,000.00 in those 4 years. Starting in ' 97 efforts have been geared to raising money for the Multiple Sclerosis Society. We have also helped Americares with the preparation of their new medical facility in Danbury.

The Memorial Day parade brings out students and their families to march and show their support and appreciation for our Veterans. Our "ninja" entertain the spectators as we march through the downtown.

July brings Village Fair Days, and besides our booth, you'll find our students performing in a show with a demonstration of various techniques and abilities.

Special self defense classes are given for Women's Clubs, Girl Scout Troops and for fundraisers as well as field-trip karate classes for Cub Scout Packs. We host "Parent's Night", "Dojo Lock-ins" (sleep-overs), and Summer Day Classes.

The Double Dragon Dojo was honored to be the recipient of the New Milford Chamber of Commerce's Small Business Award for the year of 1996, and the Distinguished Member of the Year Award was given to Renshi Fran for 1998. A new project in the near future for Renshi Fran, is to rase funds for breast cancer, as she is a 2-time cancer survivor herself.
